Architects in Bath

ReFrame Studio works with homeowners and self-builders across Bath, designing well-crafted, sustainable homes that complement the city’s rich architectural heritage and surrounding landscape. Our work takes inspiration from Bath’s Georgian terraces and rolling countryside.

Our work across Bath is shaped by a genuine connection to the city. Founding directors Carly and Scott first met while studying architecture in Bath, where they developed a shared interest in thoughtful, well-crafted design that responds to its historic setting.

Residential Architects in Bath

ReFrame Studio works with homeowners and self-builders across Bath, designing carefully considered homes that respond to their setting and the way people live. Our projects range from home extensions and renovations to new-build houses and self-build projects, often within historic neighbourhoods and sensitive contexts.

Bath has a distinctive architectural character — from its world-renowned Georgian terraces and crescents to its carefully preserved historic streetscapes. Our approach focuses on creating thoughtful, well-crafted homes that balance heritage, sustainability and modern living. With Carly having grown up in the city, the studio brings a personal understanding of Bath’s architectural history and local character, alongside strong connections to the area.

Planning Permission in Bath

Navigating planning permission in Bath can be complex, particularly within conservation areas, listed buildings and historically significant settings. As an RIBA Chartered architecture practice, we guide clients through the entire planning process — from early feasibility studies and pre-application advice to preparing and submitting planning applications.

Our familiarity with Bath & North East Somerset Council and the city’s planning context helps us develop proposals that respond sensitively to their surroundings while meeting the needs of homeowners and self-builders. By combining thoughtful design with a clear planning strategy, we help maximise the chances of achieving a successful planning outcome.

Bonnie Banks
New Build House

Bonnie Banks is a contemporary detached residence designed for a prominent hillside site within the City of Bath.

Providing full services from Concept Design through to Planning Approval, Technical Design and Tender Management, the project delivers a 330m² new-build home that balances architectural clarity with contextual sensitivity.

Located opposite the Grade I listed park and gardens of Prior Park , the design demonstrates how high-quality contemporary architecture can sit confidently within one of the UK’s most historically significant settings.

Planning approval was successfully secured, recognising both the architectural ambition of the proposal and its respectful response to Bath’s distinctive character.

Meet the Team

Our Bath studio is led by Carly, who grew up in the city and returned in 2021 after working in Cambridge, bringing her experience back to the place she has always called home.

Smiling woman with short, wavy brown hair wearing an orange blouse and khaki pants, standing with hands in pockets against a plain light gray background.

Based in Bath, the studio works with clients across the city and into the surrounding landscapes of Somerset and Wiltshire. Carly has a strong understanding of the Bath planning process, alongside an established network of trusted local consultants and suppliers who support projects from concept through to completion.

She is available for face-to-face meetings and regular site visits, guiding clients through each stage with clear, collaborative advice. Her design approach is shaped by Bath’s Georgian architecture as well as the surrounding countryside of the Cotswolds and Somerset hills.

This local understanding informs projects that respond carefully to their setting, with a thoughtful, place-led approach that balances heritage, sustainability and contemporary living.
